Arizona Governor Brewer Signs Gold Star Military Medal Law
Phoenix – Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has signed a law creating a special medal to honor Arizona military members who have died in the War on Terror.
Senate Bill 1429 was passed by the Arizona Legislature during its last regular session and creates the Arizona Gold Star Military Medal to be awarded on behalf of the State of Arizona to the next of kin of a member of the Arizona National Guard or a military member resident of the State or stationed in Arizona who died in the line of duty since September 11, 2001.
The bill’s sponsor, State Senator Al Melvin, a retired U. S. Navy Reserve captain; State Senator Jack Harper, Chairman of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee; Arizona Adjutant General, Major General Hugo E. Salazar; and David Hampton, Legislative Liaison for the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, were on hand as the governor placed her signature on the bill during a special ceremony at the Arizona Military Museum in Phoenix.
